A new architect contacted us, following a RIBA CPD meeting at their practice about the home technology options they could offer.
This prompted them to introduce us to a private client, who was renovating a property they had recently acquired for their own residence. Over four levels, the refurbishment was extensive and at a high level of fit and finish.
We met the client and his girlfriend and quickly established exactly what they wanted to achieve.
As a potential party home, they wanted to ensure entertainment was at the forefront of the design, with two media rooms, in the basement adjacent to the rear sunken garden and another in the ground floor for more informal football evenings with friends.
With the girlfriend starting her own business from the new property, broadband and mobile connectivity were key to her.
The upper level bedrooms needed access to a number of AV sources (digital TV, Sky in HD, internet radio and music subscription services) and they also wanted local AV sources such as Apple TV hidden in the cabinetry for instant access.
By meeting with the electrician and working out the routes through the property for the extensive cabling, and working with the architect and cabinetry firm, we developed a design that delivered clean use of the space, to store the main AV hub in the basement and the equipment for the two media spaces, including provision for the two 65in Samsung HD screens and the surround sound speaker systems in the bespoke cabinetry.
By linking the audio system to a series of speakers across all the floors, as well as out into the courtyard garden, the whole house can have access to different sources of music as well as having all the audio zones grouped for those party nights.
With Control4 at the heart of the systems in place, they have the choice of either a handheld remote for navigating Sky and Apple TV, distributed by the Wyrestorm HD distribution system, or for music selection and volume control of the Control4 audio system, from an iPad or portable Control4 touchscreen device.
Supporting the project, we can remotely log in and check the status of the system as part of our maintenance system for the clients.
Since the install, they have now become husband and wife, and apparently the house is still a great party zone!
