The main contractor for the project approached us, following two earlier projects, to work with the client to capture their initial thoughts on modernising the interior and plan for existing and future technology of their home.
A basement room had been set aside for a media room, a garden area with seating and integrated BBQ and the upper level showed plans for an office.
With a definite limit on potential areas to store the AV and network equipment, due to a bespoke open staircase to every level, and the requirement to maximise the size of rooms, the basement utility became the agreed hub for the house.
With a signature brick wall for a loft living feel, the media room was designed to be a relaxing, informal space. The clients wanted to keep the TV screen close to the wall, which we achieved with a Future Automation recessed TV mount.
Low profile Speakercraft ceiling speakers, working with a small & mighty Velodyne subwoofer gave a subtle approach, and a request to TURN IT UP!
The two other key TV zones were the kitchen and master bedroom, with a choice of access to UK Sky satellite, Brazilian channels (for the soap operas and news from home) and a range of music and movies, delivered via Apple TV and Amazon Fire.
The speakers to the rear garden were installed behind a slotted wooden façade, so they are invisible but fill the space for parties and those lazy summer days. Music can be selected from the in-wall iPad in the kitchen, or clipped out to take into the garden for parties.
Lighting control across all floors accentuates the signature staircase, and delivered the investment in light fittings by the clients (one of whom is an interior designer, by the way) to make the house unique.
Working from home to avoid the commute before choosing to start their own business during the build process, the top floor office was a place to get in the mood for, or relax after, their working day, depending on what music is selected.
With the ability to AirPlay from their phones into the system, and a floor by floor managed Wifi system, they are always on-line and entertained all work & all play.
